New footage has emerged showing rapper NBA Youngboy in custody, drawing renewed attention to the conditions faced by incarcerated musicians. The video, widely circulated under the title “New Footage Of NBA Youngboy In Jail Shocks Everyone,” adds to a growing list of documented incidents involving rappers who have encountered violence while behind bars.

The footage arrives amid a broader pattern of violent attacks on hip-hop figures in correctional facilities. In May 2025, rapper Tory Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, was stabbed approximately 14 to 16 times by inmate Santino Castillo at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Lanez sustained wounds to his face, head, torso, and back, resulting in collapsed lungs and permanent scars. He later filed a lawsuit against prison officials, alleging failure to provide adequate protection.
In a separate incident at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, rapper YNW Melly, legally named Demonte Kendrick, was struck in the head during an altercation in late 2024 while awaiting trial in the YSL RICO case. He required four staples to close the wound. Melly described the facility as the worst stretch of his sentence, citing an inability to sleep, see family, or receive mail. He declined to specify the cause of the conflict, stating that no one would make such accusations to his face.

The Fulton County Jail has been the site of multiple violent events involving YSL RICO co-defendants. In December 2023, Shannon Stillwell, also known as SB Jackson, was stabbed multiple times during a fight and was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital. Reports indicated he underwent surgery for a stab wound to the stomach. Stillwell had previously been stabbed in the same jail in 2022. The facility was under federal investigation by the Department of Justice at the time, with reports that inmates were breaking pieces off crumbling walls to fashion weapons.
Other rappers have faced similar dangers. In June 2023, Brooklyn rapper Casanova, real name Caswell Senior, was slashed across the face by inmate Ulysses Lugo at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey. The attack occurred shortly after Casanova had publicly renounced his gang affiliation in court. In another case, rapper MoneySign Suede, legal name Jaime Brugada Valdez, was fatally stabbed in the neck in the shower area of the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad, California, in April 2023. His death was ruled a homicide.
The new footage of NBA Youngboy in jail has not been accompanied by official statements from his representatives or prison authorities. The specific circumstances surrounding the recording remain unknown. The video adds to the ongoing discussion about the safety of high-profile inmates within the correctional system.
